a few moments of the life of a weaver

As a palm weaver I have met many interesting and strange people and seen many interesting and strange things.
When I first started I would go to Horton Plaza in the gaslamp of San Diego after work to weave palms. I was mainly there to make extra money so I could buy lunch at work the next day and also to meet people and flirt with cute girls.
Is the real reason I learned how to make roses in the first place.
I can;t begin to tell you how many women over the years I have met face to face because of the rose. While working there one day a man walked up and said hey I can do that, you are doing it wrong. His name is Pablo.
He showed me how to make a different rose, and also how to make a cross and a heart, and from time to time we would work together.
After learning these things along with a couple of other little tricks I went to the harbor one day to see if I could find Cris the man who taught me.
he wasn't there, as a matter of fact there wast anyone there, that performed or signed for money either. So I decided why not and I weaved that day. I made 100 dollars, so I came back the next day and made almost 200 and then I came back again and made another 50 or so. I was stoked, as on the weekend I made more then I had working all week at my normal job.. Not long after this, I was given an ultimatum at my job, I told my boss he could shove it because I could make it on my own. I started working the palms full time.
I had many things to learn still, but due to a family member passing away I had to leave California for a little while and return home to Texas.
When I made it back to San Diego, I decided to try again, and have been living off making roses and other items out of palms for a long time. I also started displaying my art as I make it, paintings and such and selling art work as well.
Over the years I have met people from different parts of the world, and they showed me tricks of trade. I bought books and learned secrets from them, and I have seen pictures of things other people make online and some of those things I figure out just by looking at. I have even created a variety of my own things along the way.
I have also taught myself how to play guitar, and I have taught myself how to do the spray paint space painting art. All becasue I had a passion to move this way.
so let not you dreams be stopped by anything because if you believe in yourself you can make it through life. and if you let you faith in what ever you believe take you through life, nothing ca stop you. you may find times when things may slow you down, but there is nothing that is impossible if you believe and you try to find a way as there is always a way.

resolution revolution

my new years resolution for 2011. first a welcomed goodbye to 2010 (good bye!!good riddance 2010!) Hello and good morning 2011 and all that it brings, the good and the bad, the fun and the sad, may 2011 be the best year we can make it.

This year as a resolution, I have many plans and ideas that I want to make happen. Making dreams realities is my main resolution this year. The next i to try and take positive steps, for this years resolution I am not quitting anything or giving anything up. I am not doing anything of the sort. Those are pointless resolutions to make, we never stick with them when we make them.

Instead of saying I am quitting smoking or anything like that this years other resolutions are as follows.

To promote love, and kindness. I already do this, but last year I have been a little less myself in that aspect...So I plan to do this more. not because Christ told me to, or because some strange god in the night told me its a good idea, not because I read it in a book somewhere, and not because its the right thing to do, but I like it when people show me love and kindness, and there's a saying that if you give out you get back. and you can never get enough of either love and kindness so why not.

2011 new year of free love everyone, yay...

(hey get your minds out of the gutter that's not free, I have to at least get a cookie.) :)=)

I am going to try and be more active and proactive this year, get out and do things, go for hikes and do some sort of exorcising, why because I wanna be able to walk long distances if I have to, and it would be a lot easier if i was in shape LOL... and I just might want to climb a mountain sometime this year and in my current state of energy I don't think I could do it. then again I am a little hung over and its 10 am lol. I am going to do more things with my friends, travel more, and get out of San Deigo quite a bit this year even if i have to hitchhike to do it.

I am going to use my creativity to do more than just entertain people this year. I am going to use it to manifest my destiny. :)

and on the note of resolution revolution I leave you all with a story I am fond of a fried told me.

A monk was sitting with his pupil and his pupil asked if there was a hell waiting for evil people in the after life. and a heaven awaiting to good.

The monk replied. " heaven and hell are here and now. think of them as two rooms. the first room has a pot sitting in the center of the room, it is filled with life giving soup. there are people all around the pot, and there is one spoon that is long enough each of the people can reach the pot with the spoon. yet the people in this room are starving because the spoon is too long for them to spoon soup into their mouths and every time they try they spill the soup that is in the spoon.

the next room is exactly the same there is a pot sitting in the center of the room, it is filled with life giving soup. there are people all around the pot, and there is one spoon that is long enough each of the people can reach the pot with the spoon. Yet these people are full and happy. The reason is because these people learned that if they used the spoon to feed their neighbors instead of selfishly trying to feed themselves, and in this they learned by feeding their neighbors they where also feeding themselves because in order to keep alive you have to keep your neighbor alive in order for your neighbor to keep you alive.

This is the difference of heaven and hell

both can be achieved on this earth here and now.

The begining

I had moved to San Diego, Ca to start a new life, I was at my friend's house for 3 weeks in Alpine before he suggested that I stay with a friend of his in San Diego.
I had moved from Texas to look for work and to try and get my life on track.
I had been in San Diego, for about a month and had been working a telemarketing job, when I learned my calling. It was a cold October Sunday and there was a military ship viewing in the harbor that day. I decided I was going to buy some beer and walk around and look at the ships. So I headed to the harbor on the dreaded 2 bus, and stopped and bought some beer along the way.

I was walking around for almost and hour when I saw a man making flowers out of some sort of leaves. I stopped and watched for a bit then offered the man a beer. I sat and talked with him for an hour or so, then asked if he would teach me. He said he couldn't, I gave him another beer talked with him for a while longer and asked again. he said, " look this is my job and I can't teach you." I said, " look I don't need it for money I have a job, it would just be a great way to meet girls." He said, "ok buy me a case of beer and go to the beach with me and I will teach you."
So we walked to the trolley bought a case of beer along the walk, and on the way we came to a palm tree. He stopped and showed me what to cut from the tree and told me not to talk more than two fronds from each tree every 6 months.
We cut a couple of palms then made out way to the trolley.
on the trolley he showed me how to make the rose, but I just wasn't getting it, so I asked him to tell me the story he told a woman in the harbor, I had him repeat the story several times. The story is what made learning the rose easy for me.
By the time we got to the trolley stop I was already making roses myself without instruction. He told me to give one to a girl that was sitting a couple of seats in front of us the rose, he said that if she smiled then I passed the class.
She smiled and said thank you.

We then got off the trolley and got on a bus that took us to Ocean Beach.
It dropped us off near a taco stand, and he made a couple of crosses walked over to the taco stand and was able to get us both free carne asada burritos. We then walked to the beach and found a fire pit and opened the case of beers and started drinking. The whole time I was practicing how to make the rose, and every time a girl would walk by I would give one away.
By the time the case was empty Cris decided he was going to find somewhere to pass out and I was talking with a girl I had met on the beach. It was 2 am and all the buses stopped running, and coincidentally the girl I was talking to lived near me, so I caught a ride home.

The next day I went to work hung over, and after work was done I went to the gas-lamp area to practice folding roses. I ended up sitting in front of the downtown mall in the garden area. I met a few cool people while making roses, and somehow I made a few bucks. So I continued to do this every night after work which lead me to random adventures and meeting interesting people. Over the years I have learned a great deal of things and have met many interesting characters, and have some strange stories from all the things I have seen while being a weaver.
This is just the beginning....
